What you say and how you say it is extremely important, which is what we discussed when talking about quality content. But how this content looks from a coding perspective (how Google looks at it) is just as important to get right when trying to improve your search engine rankings.

For one, whatever keyword each individual page is targeting should include that keyword in the URL. The Title Tag should include that same – or a variation of – keyword. The first paragraph of text should start off with that keyword. And the keyword should appear again throughout the content, header tags and image alt tags. Other pages on the website should also link to this page, when appropriate, using the keyword of this page as the anchor text.

With all that said, be sure not to fall into ‘keyword stuffing’ where you’re saying the keyword too often or in places that it doesn’t make sense. You need to utilize the keyword, and variations of the keyword, but it must fit naturally and organically throughout the content.

Beyond that, the structure of architecture of the website pages plays a major role in how search engines can crawl and understand the content. It also plays a role in the ease of a user interacting with the content. Setting up your content pages in silos (as pictured here) makes for a very straight-forward and easy to understand website as a whole.

As you organize your different keywords and categories into individual silos, you only link internally to other pages that fit the same URL path and silo.

If all of that doesn’t make sense, don’t worry. That’s what we’re here for as your proven and trusted SEO company in Raleigh.
